Festive Afternoon Tea in aid of Pedal Power
Groundwork North Wales held a fantastic Festive Afternoon tea on Thursday 28th November to raise funds for Cycling 4 All the all ability cycling service based Alyn Waters Country Park – Pedal Power.
Guests where welcomed to Venue in the Park function room at Alyn Waters with a glass of fizz sponsored by Blakemore Spars while the perused, they festive gift stalls and then enjoyed a Christmas themed afternoon tea including turkey sandwiches, Christmas cake and mince pies prepared by the work opportunity volunteers at Caffi Cyfle.
Stalls included locally made jams and chutneys from the Friends of Alyn Waters support group, wooden reindeers made by the project team and youth project participants at groundwork North Wales plus much more. With additional fundraising stall the ‘Bag Bola’ run by volunteers Karen and Nathan from D W Fitness.
The festive mood continued with entertainment from rat pack crooner Nigel Fabb and his Christmas set list.
Jean Williams and her friend Joan attending the event and had a thoroughly enjoyable time;
“We have had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, the food was delicious, and we have even been able to do a little Christmas shopping, whilst supporting such a worthwhile cause.”
The event culminated with the annual Pedal Power Prize draw with attendee Pam Sharpe taking home the 1st prize of Lunch for two kindly donated by the Pant yr Ochain and high street shopping vouchers, 2nd prize of Family Day out vouchers thanks to Chester Zoo and Flip out was won by Zoe Henderson, and third prize of a luxury hamper supported by Allington Hughes Law was won by Stan Moore.
Including the Prize Draw, sponsorship from the Borras Park Co-Op and the bag bola stall the event raised a fantastic £1700.
To top off a spectacular event Nigel Fabb presented a further cheque to Karen Balmer trustee of Cycling 4 All for £730 raised through his singing performances and sales of his Christmas CD.
Karen Balmer trustee of Pedal Power was delighted with the funds raised;
“We are delighted with the funds raised today, and a huge Thank You to Nigel for his donation. All the money will go directly to supporting Cycling 4 All here at Alyn Waters and the unique service it provides allowing individuals with different abilities and health conditions to exercise and achieve goals”.
